The star of this recording was Robin Hames' 12 year old son Thomas, who played bassoon.
It was rather a baptism of fire for his first recording session, as the tune trips along rather. He then detailed the experience to his school, and the whole school listened to the finished product and watched the program on TV.
I was chuffed with this one, and did have fun writing for the orchestra, and also not including guitars anywhere! [Sorry Al but this is serious music!]
At one point I considered using a synthesized oboe, as the part for oboe was relatively small, but when Graham Dyer eventually came to the studio and played oboe so beautifully I realized what a fool I had been.
It details the journey of the intrepid "Mario", played by Cardiff comedian Rod Woodward, on his journey from Italy to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as the title sequence for BBC's "A Bit Off The Fringe."
I was having so much fun with this, that I also did a piano concerto version, which reminds me..I must get a life!

Composed/Arranged Nigel Hart
Nigel Hart Orchestra: "The Shabbey Road Chamber Orchestra"
with special guest Thomas Hames.
Guitars: Nobody!
